How to work with the Palm and ARM detection

This feature allows the rejection of areas with dimensions larger than a finger, such as a hand or an arm.  The rejection area can be configured and is conditioned by the Touch Sensor size.



For the same hand, a smaller Touch Sensor should have a greater palm rejection area since the touch is going to cover more cells. On a bigger Touch Sensor, the hand touch will cover less cells. In this case the rejection area should be smaller.
To support the user when configuring the palm rejection area, here we present, as a suggestion, values to configure the Skin to reject an adult palm for Touch Sensors with different dimensions.

If the Palm and Arm detection feature is not activated the results of multiple touches detected (by a hand and/or an arm):



The following is another example when the Palm and Arm detection feature is activated, however, touches are still being recognized since the rejection area isn’t properly adjusted to the Touch Sensor size. An increase or decrease of the rejection area is required.



When the Palm and Arm detection feature is activated with an adequate value for the Touch Sensor dimension the visual touch feedback will be similar to the one on the following image:



You can see the contours of a hand and of an arm but no touch is being recognized.
