Cleaning Methods for DISPLAX Touchscreens (COVID-19)

This technical bulletin describes the recommended cleaning and disinfecting procedure for DISPLAX Touch Modules.

This is also applicable to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

DISPLAX Touch Modules use projective capacitive (PCAP)touch technology, meaning the sensor is behind a glass screen with a flat front surface. The cleaning and disinfecting procedures are straightforward and the same as cleaning any glass surface. They should be part of your daily cleaning routine.

Cleaning and disinfecting are two distinct steps. Cleaning removes dirt, grease, dust, and other contaminants.

Disinfecting is a separate process that uses a chemical designed to destroy  viruses.

DISPLAX advises you to follow local regulations when appropriate.

Cleaning your DISPLAX TouchScreen

  1. To prepare for cleaning the touchscreen, power down the device (if possible), or ensure your on-screen software can tolerate touches while you clean.
  2. Use only soft, non-abrasive cleaning wipes or cloths, to avoid scratching touchscreens.
  3. Never use highly concentrated alcohol (> 70%), acidic or alkaline cleaners, undiluted bleach, ammonia solutions, or organic chemicals/solvents such as paint thinner, acetone, toluene, xylene, propyl, isopropyl alcohol, or kerosene. These may cause discoloration.
  4. Do not get liquids inside the unit. Do not spray the DISPLAX product directly. Instead, use wet wipes, or a sprayed or dampened cloth with the excess liquid squeezed out.
  5. Wipe the surfaces with appropriate wipes or cloths and approved cleaning products, and allow to dry.

Disinfecting your DISPLAX TouchScreen

  1. To prepare for disinfecting the touchscreen, power down the device (if possible) or ensure your on-screen software can tolerate touches while you disinfect it.
  2. Dampen or spray a new, clean, non-abrasive cloth with disinfectant. Ensure excess liquid is squeezed from the cloth.
  3. Read the disinfectant manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Many manufacturers require the surface to remain wet for a few minutes, so continuous wiping might be required.
  4. Disinfect the surfaces by wiping them with the cloth or wipe, and allow the surface to dry.
