Connect Directly to the GPU

Connecting DISPLAX TILE Directly to the GPU (DisplayPort or HDMI)

As an alternative to Daisy Chain mode, each DISPLAX TILE unit can be connected directly to the computer’s graphics card (GPU) using either:

  • DisplayPort (DP)

  • HDMI

The connection type depends on the available outputs on your graphics card.

In this configuration, each TILE acts as an independent display connected to a dedicated GPU output.

How It Works

  • Connect each TILE to one available GPU output (DP or HDMI)

  • Use one cable per TILE

  • Configure the layout in the graphics card control panel

  • Optionally create a Mosaic / Video Wall configuration

Example:

  • 4 TILE units

  • 4 GPU outputs (any combination of DP or HDMI)

  • 1 graphics card

Each TILE is connected independently.

Important Limitation

⚠️ The number of TILE units you can connect is limited by your graphics card.

Before installation, verify:

  • Maximum number of supported displays

  • Maximum total resolution supported

  • Video wall / Mosaic capabilities (if merging displays)

  • Output type compatibility (DP / HDMI version)

Resolution Example

Each TILE has a native resolution of:

1920 × 1080

If you use 4 TILE units in Portrait orientation arranged vertically, the total resolution becomes:

1920 × 4320

Always calculate the total resolution according to:

  • Number of rows

  • Number of columns

  • Display orientation

DisplayPort vs HDMI – What to Consider

Both work for direct GPU connection, but:

  • DisplayPort is typically preferred for:

    • Multi-display setups

    • Higher bandwidth stability

    • Mosaic configurations

  • HDMI is suitable when:

    • The GPU has limited DP outputs

    • Resolution and refresh rate requirements are supported

Ensure cables and GPU outputs support:

  • 1920×1080 at 60Hz (minimum per TILE)

Best Practices

  • Use high-quality certified cables

  • Set refresh rate to 60Hz

  • Confirm GPU VRAM and bandwidth are sufficient for the total resolution
