USB Extenders and HUB’s

USB Extenders

There are many types of USB Extenders on the market, depending on the cable length you need to choose the correct type.

The most common are:

  • Passive cables, they don’t have a power adapter and a repeater to boost the signal.
  • Cables with repeater are usually powered, theoretically allowing to use more cable length when compared to the passive ones.

The operation of the Skin Ultra/Fit/Dualtouch with these devices will vary for each USB Extender model. We can’t ensure the proper function of the touch sensor.

We highly recommend testing these devices before doing the final installation.

Using bad quality USB Extenders can provoke:

  • Bad touch performance.
  • DISPLAX Connect to stop working.
  • Noise resulting from a signal loss.

If you want to use an USB extender we recommend you to choose one that is powered and has a repeater to boost the signal.

USB Hubs

The most common Hub types can be powered or not powered. As the USB extenders this devices may not be appropriate to use with the SKIN. The behaviors of a device not compatible with the SKIN are similar to the USB extenders :

  • Bad touch performance.
  • DISPLAX Connect stop working.
  • Noise resulting from a signal loss.

We highly recommend testing these devices before doing the final installation.

If you want to use this kind of device we recommend you to use a powered USB HUB. This one has a external power adapter that will help with the power consumption of all the connected devices.

Tested equipments

Displax tested several USB Extenders and found one that works with the Displax ULTRA/FIT/DUALTOUCH: Icron Ranger 2311 and the Lindy 15m USB 3.0 Active Extension Cable
