How to Fine-Tune DISPLAX Sensors: Gain and Threshold

Fine-tuning your DISPLAX touch sensor ensures smooth, accurate, and stable touch performance.
Two key settings must be adjusted: Gain and Threshold.

What is Gain?

Gain controls the signal strength sent from the Touch Controller to the Touch Sensor.

  • Range: 0 to 7

  • Higher Gain = stronger signal

  • Use higher values for thicker glass or larger sensors

💡 Think of Gain like a “volume knob” for the sensor signal — the thicker or larger the setup, the louder (stronger) it needs to be.

What is Threshold?

Threshold defines how sensitive the sensor is to touch.

  • Range: 0 to 50

  • Higher values make the sensor more sensitive

  • Lower values make it less sensitive (reduces noise and false touches)

💡 Think of Threshold as “touch detection strictness” — the lower it is, the harder you must touch for detection.

Step-by-Step Adjustment Guide

  1. Start with Gain = 0 and Threshold = 0.
Wait 2 seconds after changing Gain before touching the screen.

⚠️ The “Do not touch” message means the new Gain setting is being applied.

  2. Increase Gain and Threshold gradually together.

    • After each adjustment, test the touch by dragging your finger across the display.

    • The goal is to achieve smooth and continuous movement without interruptions.

  3. Avoid high values.

    • Very high Gain or Threshold may cause electromagnetic interference (EMI) or reduce accuracy.

    • Use only the lowest combination that gives stable and reliable touch detection.

  4. Test the entire sensor surface.

    • Check both the center and edges for consistent touch tracking.

    • If you notice breaks, slightly increase both values together and test again.

Goal: Achieve a stable, accurate touch response using the lowest possible Gain and Threshold values, minimizing EMI and ensuring long-term performance.

What Is Considered Good Touch Performance?

Good touch performance means the sensor detects every touch smoothly, continuously, and accurately, even when dragging across the entire display — center and borders — without interruptions or false touches.

⚠️ Note:
Once good touch performance is achieved but false touches are still detected, check the Shield feature for potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues.
