Object Recognition on Multiple DISPLAX Tile Units

DISPLAX Tile supports Object Recognition (OR) across multiple Tile units installed side by side, whether they are connected via Daisy Chain or direct connections.

Each Tile unit operates independently for Object Recognition and must be configured individually in DISPLAX Connect.

Overview

When using multiple DISPLAX Tile units together, Object Recognition can be enabled on all of them simultaneously.
To achieve this, each Tile must send its Object Recognition data through a dedicated TUIO client using a unique network port.

This ensures that object and touch data from each Tile is correctly routed to the application.

Configuration Requirements

To enable Object Recognition on multiple Tile units:

  1. Open DISPLAX Connect

  2. For each connected Tile controller:

    • Enable TUIO output

    • Configure a separate TUIO client

    • Assign a unique port number (for example: 3333, 3334, 3335, etc.)

  3. Repeat the process for every Tile unit in the setup

Each Tile must have:

  • Its own TUIO client

  • A different port from the others

Important Notes and Limitations

Tag Placement Across Tiles

Even though DISPLAX Tile features an ultra-thin bezel, it is not possible to correctly recognize a TAG placed across two adjacent Tile units.

  • TAGs must be placed entirely within the active area of a single Tile

  • Objects overlapping two Tiles will not be detected correctly

TAG Limits per Tile

  • You can use up to 6 Passive TAGs per Tile unit

  • TAG detection and tracking are handled locally by each Tile

TUIO Touch Limitations

  • TUIO is limited to 20 simultaneous touches per client

  • When using multiple Tiles:

    • Each Tile (TUIO client) has its own 20-touch limit

    • Touch limits are not shared across Tiles

Best Practices

  • Use a clear port mapping strategy for each Tile (e.g., sequential ports)

  • Test Object Recognition:

    • On each Tile individually

    • Then with all Tiles active together

  • Avoid placing objects, hands, or TAGs across Tile borders

  • Ensure stable USB connections and proper grounding for all Tile units
