Cleaning Methods for DISPLAX Touchscreens

This technical bulletin describes the recommended cleaning and disinfecting procedures for DISPLAX Touch Modules.

These instructions also apply to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) safety protocols.

DISPLAX Touch Modules use projected capacitive (PCAP) touch technology, meaning the sensor sits behind a glass layer with a flat, smooth front surface. Cleaning and disinfecting are simple and should be part of your regular maintenance routine.

⚠️ Important: Cleaning and disinfecting are two separate steps.

  • Cleaning removes dirt, grease, dust, and other contaminants.

  • Disinfecting eliminates viruses and bacteria using chemical products.

DISPLAX advises following local health and safety regulations as applicable.

Cleaning Your DISPLAX Touchscreen

  1. Power down the device (if possible), or ensure the software can tolerate touches during cleaning.

  2. Use only soft, non-abrasive cleaning wipes or cloths to avoid scratching the glass.

  3. Never use highly concentrated alcohol (>70%), acids, undiluted bleach, ammonia, or solvents such as acetone, toluene, xylene, or kerosene. These can cause discoloration or surface damage.

  4. Do not spray liquid directly on the display or sensor. Instead, dampen a cloth or use pre-moistened wipes, and squeeze out excess liquid.

  5. Wipe the surfaces gently and allow them to air dry.

Cleaning Directly on the DISPLAX Sensor

If you need to clean the sensor itself (when it’s not laminated behind glass):

  • Use only clean water.

  • Do not use alcohol, detergent, or any other abrasive or chemical product.

  • Wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth and allow to dry naturally.

⚠️ Using abrasive or chemical products directly on the sensor surface can cause permanent damage to the touch coating and affect performance.

Disinfecting Your DISPLAX Touchscreen

  1. Power down the device (if possible), or ensure the software can tolerate touches.

  2. Dampen a clean, non-abrasive cloth with a compatible disinfectant.

    • Always squeeze out excess liquid before applying.

  3. Read and follow the disinfectant manufacturer’s instructions — some require the surface to remain wet for a specific time.

  4. Wipe all surfaces evenly and allow them to dry completely.
